My Baby Shower :-)

My Baby Shower :-)

I woke up in the morning and couldn't believe the day had come for MY baby shower. I know I had my indian 'baby shower' but it's different, and yes I know I'm very lucky to have 2 days that are all about me (and the baby of course!!)!!

I guess after you get married, it's one of those days that you think about, and what your shower will be like, how you will feel, what you will look like etc. Well I did anyway...!!

I'm not going to lie, when I first found out we were pregnant and got over the initial excitement, I started to think about the realities of what it meant to be pregnant over here in Australia, far away from my family and childhood friends. It saddened me to think that these special people in my life were not going to be there to share special milestone moments in my life, that I had always imagined they would. On the day, I was still sad that they couldn't share the day with me, but my friends here (my Aus family), put in an overwhelming amount of effort for me to ensure that I had a beautiful baby shower, and also an element of presence from the special ladies at home.

All the planning started a few weeks ago, and aside from the venue for the shower, I had pretty much had nothing else to do with the details! Anyone who knows me will know that I'm a total planner, and a bit of a control freak when it comes to these things, so for me to be kept in the dark on all the details (and for me to not go digging) was not easy! On the bright side though, it was so great to not have the pressure of organising, with so much else on my plate. Major thanks Trish, Tina, Sarah and Liz for relieving me of the stress and taking it on for me!

After being treated to hair and make-up as a birthday present, we went to the venue, which was Burnt Orange, in Mosman NSW (www.burntorange.com.au). I've always wanted to go here for afternoon tea, so was really excited that this was where my baby shower was going to be. The view is absolutely stunning here, and we were lucky enough to have a very warm, bright day, so made sitting out on the terrace all the more lovely :-)

I could see that the girls had gone to such an effort to make everything look beautiful and pretty for me. They know how fussy I am, so can't help but wonder if they were nervous at what I would think lol, but they needn't have worried because I was so overwhelmed with the effort that they had clearly put into organising everything - I loved it :-)

Food was a traditional afternoon tea, with a delicate selection of sweet and savoury - all amazingly yummy. The little poppet was kicking around, which I took as approval from her too! There was the option of a glass of sparkling also, which went down well on such a lovely day.

Games!! Now baby shower games can be hit or miss, but the games we had were so much fun! There was a word search for throughout, where you really had to listen hard to what people were saying, in order to win - there were some real professionals amongst us, or some might call them cheats!! We also played another game where I was shown some baby related items, and I had to guess what they were - now I thought I was going to be better than this than I actually was (so I need to get reading anything and everything it would seem!), and even Jay got more than me when we tried it out on him later! Shame on me, good on him!!
The funniest one however was where the girls had to drawn a picture of Baby Doshi. Now I'm no artist AT ALL, but there were some seriously funny pics coming from these ladies - a couple were even scary I would go as far to say! It had me in tears of laughter - just thinking of them now puts me in giggles!

A nasal extractor apparently. Who would know that?!!!

I REALLY hope my baby doesn't look like this lol!!

The afternoon went way to fast for my liking, but I had such an awesome time. It's really hard being so far away from home, away from family and childhood friends, to share these moments with, but the girls here really went to so much effort to make it special for me. They even arranged for messages to be written for my guestbook from some of my very nearest and dearest from back home, so I felt they were a part of it. That's when it became emotional and I had to stop reading, and save it for later!

Trish, Tina, Sarah and Liz, I'm so grateful for all that you did for me for my baby shower - I'm so touched that you went to so much effort for me. It really does mean the world, and I look forward to doing the same for you all one day ;-)

I really didn't want the baby shower to end, but all was not lost - on we went to meet the boys and continue celebrations for my birthday which was the week before!! Who said an 8-month pregnant lady can't party?? Okay well maybe a sit-down party but party all the same!! :-)
